Lawyer for embattled Takoradi based Medical Practitioners; Dr. Ali Gabass has refuted media reports suggesting that his client has infected his alleged victim with HIV.

Dr. Ali Gabass is being tried for allegedly sodomizing a 16-year-old boy.

[contextly_sidebar id=”vyvzMccg41NsVZyRj5ujVUIgBcvj1T1d”]The medical doctor was forced to open his defense in the criminal case at the gender based violence court in Accra after his submission of no case was dismissed.

Lawyer for Dr. Ali Gabass, John Benson in defending his client in court, argued that available medical report on Ali Gabass indicates that he was HIV negative and therefore could not have infected the victim with the virus.

He spoke to some journalists after the court proceeding on Monday.

“There is no evidence that my client has HIV. Indeed, we have on record that Dr Ali Gabass is HIV negative so I would plead with the media to stop linking my client with the HIV positive status of the alleged victim,” he said.

“If the [alleged] victim has HIV it has nothing at all to do with Dr Ali Gabass. I can confidently say that Dr Ali Gabass is HIV negative.”

He further cautioned the media to stop circulating such information adding that “whatever the outcome of this case would be, he would have to go back one day to practice his profession… it is likely to damage his profession.”
