Liverpool are set to hold talks with Manchester City’s James Milner this week as they close in on the signing of the midfielder on a free transfer.
The Anfield club have made the move for the out-of-contract England international a priority.
Liverpool are increasingly confident of reaching an agreement with the 29-year-old.
If the deal goes through, Milner – who moved to City from Aston Villa in 2010 – would join the Reds on 1 July.
Milner began his career with hometown club Leeds United before spending four years at Newcastle and then just a season as a Villa player prior to a move to City that was thought to be worth £26m.
He has won the Premier League title twice and the FA Cup once during his five years in Manchester.
Milner made his England debut against Holland in August 2009 and remains a regular in Roy Hodgson’s squad.
He has one goal – against Moldova in 2012 – from his 53 caps for the national side.
