Fast food giant, KFC has signed a partnership with indigenous poultry farm, Darko Farms to supply the company with local poultry products.

The venture by KFC and Darko Farms far exceeds the 40percent target by government to reduce the importation of poultry as a means to revamp the broiler program.
This was announced by the deputy minister of food and agriculture in charge of livestock, Hannah Bissiw who says the move will greatly enhance the fortunes of the local poultry industry.
‘’KFC as a food chain has also signed a contract with Darko farms to pick 87percent of it products and all these interventions from the private sector is an indication of the good prospects in the poultry industry.’
Adding that government will continue to make the business environment more conducive.
The Minister announced that government will establish a modern poultry production plant at the Brong Ahafo Region to compliment the operations of local poultry farmers in the country.
The plant will be situated in Bropupuwa a Surbab of Duankwanta in the region.
‘’The location is so strategic that apart from its easy access by farmers from the three Northern regions, farmers from the Ashanti region will also be able to access it.’’ Said Hanna Bissiw.
Poultry farmers in the country have over the years appealed to government to stop the importation of poultry products which they claim is killing the local poultry industry.
Export Development and Agricultural Investment Fund (EDAIF) was tasked by President John Mahama in 2014 during his state of the nation address to make available 39 million cedis to poultry farmers to boost their operations.
Fourteen million cedis from the 39 million cedi fund was to support poultry production in the Ashanti Region, while GHC 3million was to be channeled into poultry apprenticeship as grants and GHC 21 million to support Jfanko Limited set up a processing plant in Accra.
Ghana Poultry Farmers Association earlier told Citi Business News they are yet to receive the cash from the Export Development and Agricultural Investment.
