A group of people claiming to be supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ashaiman have expressed disappointment in the government, for what they say is the party’s failure to fulfill its campaign promises.

According to the group, several attempts to meet with the party hierarchy within Ashaiman to discuss their challenges have failed.

Speaking to Citi News, the Leader of the Group, Haruna Ishmael said members of the group are taking steps to dissociate themselves from the NDC permanently as it has failed the youth who played key roles in helping the party to win power in 2012 elections.

“They haven’t helped any of the youth in Ashaiman. I was expecting the President to help the youth, but he disappointed us,” said Ishmael.

Another frustrated member said : “our leaders have really disappointed us because we worked for them and we have not seen any improvement. We have just been working hard for the party but we are not seeing any improvement.”

“I’m disappointed because I remember Mahama promising the youth in Ashaiman that if we voted for our MP within a year all roads will be tarred by asphalt but it is just recently that they started constructing the Highway. All roads in Ashaiman should be tarred and not just the highways,” said another agitated member.

The youth  in the area have for sometime now been staging a series of demonstrations to protest the  the bad nature of their roads and slow pace of development in the area.

In June 2014, the youth in the area threatened a demonstration over poor living standards in the area.
