Over 20 constituencies in the Ashanti Region have also decided to ask the General Secretary and National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) , Kwabena Agyepong and Paul Afoko to step aside.

[contextly_sidebar id=”Bw6jhnRj2VU9KRhoXT8gEzjGeYLLg1bL”]The Ashanti Regional branch of the party held a meeting over the weekend to decide the fate of the two but at the meeting, party executives in the branch were asked to return to their constituencies for wider consultation before the final decision.

The various regions held meetings to decide the fate over the murder of the party’s Upper East Regional Chairman, Adam Mahama.

The two have been linked to the death because of an altercation that occurred in Bolgatanga three weeks before the incident.

According to Citi News’ Sammy Wiafe, “the twenty constituencies after holding broader consultations, returned with a petition, asking  the National Chairman and the General Secretary to step aside.”

This brings to eight, the number of regions that have called for the removal of the two.

The Chairman of the party in the Ashanti Region had ahead of the consultations asked Afoko to step aside.

Mr. Antwi Bosiako asked the two to resign since party members have lost trust in them.

“I am pleading in all humility and respect to the National Chairman Paul Afoko and General Secretary , Kwabena Agyepong that they should step aside for the sake of unity and peace in the party. If you read the bible it says if the salt loses its taste it is good for nothing. The party’s development thrives on trust and people…because they have lost the people’s trust for the sake of love for the party they should resign. If they do, it will help the party,” he argued.
