Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region have announced a one-week break  from political activities to mourn their late Regional Chairman, Adam Mahama.

[contextly_sidebar id=”7xEcShNE9WFSnoI3XkuqHHEYS0eZJeQk”]The Regional Executives say the one-week period will also help them address issues affecting the party in the Region.

Director of Communications for the party in the Region, Edmund Awuni in an interview with Citi News said they will also use the period to re-strategize for the party’s victory in 2016.

“There wouldn’t be any political activity on air, radio or any other platform; we are not going to participate in any political activity. We just want to give ourselves a one week leave in respect of our lost Regional Chairman, Adam Mahama,” he said.

Mr Awuni explained that the break is to help them “pay tribute to him [Adam Mahama] by saying that once he is absent from the world we are also absent from the political landscape.”

He said the break will also give them the opportunity “to sit down and reflect and come up with something strategic that would be able to unite us for us to be able to manage our crisis well so that we will be able to foster unity in the party.”

Adam Mahama was ambushed and attacked with an acid. He died last Thursday after the attack and has since been buried.

His death has reignited tensions in the NPP with some party leaders calling for the resignation of the National Chairman and General Secretary.
