A former Chairman of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ayikoi Otoo has described as unconstitutional attempts to remove the General Secretary and the Chairman of the party, Kwabena Agyepong and Paul Afoko.

[contextly_sidebar id=”EgMQCFlCj7sc8n5lMBVYE7ArTYiPx7Ua”]A resignation letter allegedly signed by  Kwabena Agyepong on NPP’s letterhead and reported on some news websites indicated that he had resigned.

Kwabena Agyepong has however denied reports suggesting his resignation.

Aside this purported letter there have been several calls on the two to resign after the tragic death of the party’s Upper East Regional Chairman, Adam Mahama who was attacked in the region.

However speaking to Citi News, the former Attorney General condemned attempts to remove the two, arguing that no one has the right to call for their removal, since the processes for the removal of these national officers are clearly stated in the party’s constitution.

He also dismissed the claim that the party is in a constitutional crises, since to him, some party members are just refusing to follow the dictates of the party’s constitution.

“There is no constitutional crisis…Look at the constitution well, anything that they [party members] bring , any programme they bring that this is our timetable, they are asked to take it to the National Council for it to decide on what to do …?”

Step aside – NPP Council of Elders to Afoko, Agyepong

Meanwhile Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong have been asked to step down from their respective positions.

The Council of Elders made the call in a letter addressed to the two national executives.

Citi News sources within the party indicated that they condemned the current wranglings in the party and called for calm.
