National Chairman of the People’s National Convention, PNC, Ahmed Ramadan will soon be retiring from active politics after his current tenure ends.
[contextly_sidebar id=”F6bS8rkb6C4UVd3PGdXl9svCg44OuGeL”]He was responding to rumors that he plans to contest to be presidential candidate of the party for the next general elections.
Speaking to Citi News, Ahmed Ramadan says he retiring from active party politics to spend more time with his family.
“I am saying it here and now that it is not my intention to contest any position in the party, I’m just deciding to step aside and have some rest,” he said.
Ahmed Ramadan explained that the decision is to give other young and vibrant members of the party the chance to take leadership positions in the CPP.
“I have to take care of my family, I have to take care of myself, I have to continue my livestock farming business. I have given my best to the party for a long time and I think it is now time for me to give others the opportunity to do their bit but certainly, I will remain a member of the party and give advice where necessary.”
PNC leadership has failed
The PNC’s General Secretary, Bernard Mornah, had admitted that the party’s poor performance in past elections is due to the collective failure of its leadership.
The PNC got less than 1% of the total votes cast in the 2012 general elections and has only one representative in Ghana’s Parliament.
According to him, the dismal performance in past general elections cannot be solely blamed on any one individual but the entire leadership of the party.
“I have accepted collective responsibility on the part of leadership of the party. I have not singled out any individual. I have talked about what our collective weaknesses have done and what individual weaknesses have done. Our actions and inactions have led us to where we are and so together we should find a new way out,” Bernard Mornah said in an interview with Citi News.
