Authorities of the University of Ghana have frozen two month salaries of the Korle Bu chapter members of the Federation of University Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) for embarking on a strike action.

[contextly_sidebar id=”ojaHejSTkb3H6H5xIWY9Su3lAG5efiNi”]FUSSAG has been on strike since February 2015 over unpaid allowances, prompting the University authorities to take the matter to court in a bid to compel the workers to return.

With the case yet to be determined by the courts, FUSSAG workers have had their salaries frozen for the months of April and May.

They had earlier threatened to reject any of such measures meted out against them.

In an interview with Citi News, President of the Korle Bu Chapter of FUSSAG, Haruna Rafik questioned the rationale behind the move saying the University has not been fair to them adding that “according to them [Legon authorities] we have been unjustly enriched with our salary so  salaries of our striking workers have been stopped for the month of April and this month.”

“Whereas we think that, that is not fair because our senior administration, the GAWA and UTAG members, anytime they are on strike they are paid their salaries. The GAWA for instance when they wanted market premium they were paid their salaries but is it because we are junior staff or senior staff that is why our salaries have to be stopped?”
