20120229-193856A security analyst, Prosper Nii Addo Nortey is urging West African countries especially Ghana, to make consistent and comprehensive efforts in fighting terrorism.

He revealed that terrorist groups are very unpredictable and “they strike anytime but they also want their activities to be significant and news worthy…and they also want to strike unawares.”

His caution follows a statement made by Interior Minister; Kwesi Ahwoi stating that West Africa has the potential of becoming a terrorist region if conscious efforts are not made to destroy terrorist sects in the continent.

He said terrorist sects operating in the sub-region including Asar Dine in Mali and Boko Haram in Nigeria were reminders that the West African region was not insulated from terrorism.

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Kadré Désiré Ouedraogo has also indiacted that the war against terrorism in the West African sub-region can only be won through good governance and eradication of youth unemployment

Mr. Nortey on Eyewitness News called for continental and national involvement to minimize the activities of terrorists.

“We need to make sure that we are able prevent and even if t does happen, minimize the impact of these terrorists and their activities within the sub-region and also the continent.”
