The national leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for calm within the rank and file of the party following the death of its Upper East Regional Chairman.

“We call on our party faithful to remain calm in this sad moment of ours and trust the security agencies to give us justice.”

The Police have arrested one person in connection with the acid attack on Adams Mahama on Wednesday which eventually led to his death at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital where he was receiving treatment.

Kwabena Agyepong condemned the acid attack on Adams Mahama saying, “we unreservedly condemn this criminal act. We expect that the Police Service will act swiftly in bringing the perpetrators of this heinous crime to face the full wrath of the law.”

According to him, the NPP is “shocked and saddened” by the incident and directed that all party flags fly at half mast across the country.

“We mourn and stand together with the family of our departed patriot in this moment of shock and grief,” he added.

The incident has forced the party’s flagbearer; Nana Akufo-Addo to shorten his two-week tour in Europe.

He has also urged party members to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
