The 2016 Presidential Candidate  for the New Patriotic Party(NPP) Nana Akufo Addo has asked government to significantly reduce or remove taxes on diesel and petroleum products  to show it is sensitive.

[contextly_sidebar id=”l6e1KZeEsZziJ8fzgK20gZfl4wYRUZ9Y”]“If the automatic adjustment pricing formula says nothing can be done about the increases in the prices of petroleum products, even though when the world market price of crude oil went down, the equivalent reduction in petroleum price did not take place, government can, at least, ease the suffering of Ghanaians and business by reducing significantly, or at best abolishing , the taxes on diesel and petroleum products. That will be a sign of a sensitive government,” Nana Addo said.

Nana Addo who is not enthused by the NPA’s announcement of a 9% increment in petroleum products expressed his misgivings about the directive on Sunday.

Nana Addo stated that considering the effects of a 3 -year power crisis, a responsible government would rather ensure that the prices of fuel are not increased.

He remarked that the latest development “means there is no end to the difficulties for the ordinary Ghanaian.”

He said this when he addressed a packed meeting of Ghanaians, NPP members and sympathisers in Köln, Germany, on the first day of his 16-day tour of some European countries.

“When President Kufuor left office, people were speaking of our country as Africa’s success story, possessing a stable democracy and an economy on the rise. Within six years of his leaving office, Ghana has retrogressed. Ghanaians are suffering and experiencing difficulties never witnessed in our history,” Nana Addo said.
