MTN leads in voice subscription in February

MTN beat competition to emerge as the fastest growing Telco in February 2015 in voice subscription.

This is according to the market share report from the National Communication Authority (NCA) for the month of February 2015.

MTN’s voice subscriber base now stands at a little above 14.1million during the period under review representing a 1.24% growth.

MTN now holds around 45.49% of the market share.

Generally, the number of voice subscribers grew by 398,649 measuring a little below 1.3%.

Second largest Telco Vodafone followed MTN in the growth race, gaining some 123,465subscribers increasing its subscriber base by 1.72%.

With a little above 7.3million subscribers, Vodafone now commands a market share of 23.53%.

Tigo this time around followed Vodafone gaining 61,155 subscribers moving its subscriber’s base by 1.46%.

Its market share for February 2015 stood at 13.74%.

Airtel which commands a little above 3.8 million subscribers in the market also gained some 57,612 new subscribers in February 2015 representing an increase of 1.46% in their base.

Following Tigo in the voice market share race is Airtel it’s market share now stands at 12.28%.

On the other hand the rest of the telcos saw declines in their subscriber base ending February 2015.

Expresso in the month of February 2015 lost 263 subscribers.

This pushed its subscriber base to a decline of about negative 0.22%.

Expresso now holds about 0.38% of the market share which stands at 119,386 subscribers.

Interestingly Glo this time trailed at the bottom losing some 16,816 subscribers in February 2015 which pushed its subscriber’s base by negative 1.17%.

With a little above 1.4million subscribers, Glo now commands a market share of 4.78%.
