Following the outbreak of the Ebola virus in parts of Africa, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has advised Ghana not to close its borders to neighbouring countries as a means of preventing the spread of the virus.
The country representative of the WHO, Magda Robalo says there are other ways the virus can be prevented rather than Ghana closing its borders.
Senegal has closed its borders due to the spreading on the virus.
The Health Ministry has allayed fears of a possible outbreak of the disease in Ghana after a 12-year-old girl was suspected to have been killed by the virus.
Speaking to Citi News, Ms. Robalo said Ghana should rather intensify its scrutiny at its borders instead of closing it.
“WHO is not recommending any restriction on travel or on trade with Guinea, with Mali, Guinea, and Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ghana or any other country where cases of Ebola have been either suspected or confirmed. That is not the way to deal with the Ebola outbreak; there are other measures to be taken. There is no need to place restrictions into trade,” she explained.
