The Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection will from Monday, begin the 36th manual and 10th e-payment cycle of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Ministry’s Communication Adviser, Abraham Asare. The statement indicated that ninety thousand, seven hundred and eighty five (90,785) beneficiary households in one hundred and forty-four (144) districts are expected to be paid their benefits.
LEAP was introduced to support extremely poor households to meet their very basic needs for survival. The programme is contributing significantly to the wellbeing of beneficiaries.
The breakdown of the payment is as follows: one member household will receive GHC 48.00, a household with two eligible members receives GHC 60.00, whilst households with three eligible beneficiaries gets GHC 72.00 and household with four eligible beneficiaries or more receives GHC 90.00.
The statement further explained that these payments cover the months of March and April, 2015.
Currently there are two mechanisms of payment; the manual and electronic payments. The manual payments are made by Ghana Post Company Limited whereas the e-payments are done by MTN mobile money, GhIPSS (ezwich) and AYA Technologies.
The statement explained that “officials of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection as well as the Department of Social Welfare will monitor the payments during the period” especially the manual system of payment.
Meanwhile, training of enumerators to add on additional beneficiary households is ongoing across the country. 60,000 beneficiary households in 44 districts will be added to the current number of 90,785 by June this year.
