An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday sentenced one Abubakar Sadik, a Guinean student, to 15 years imprisonment for robbing one Gloria Edusei of her hand bag containing an amount of $10,000.00, 250.00 Euros, GHC 250.00, a Ghanaian passport and other documents.

[contextly_sidebar id=”X6UsrqBrUpBoXvWojCdWasXNwt0C8thi”]Abubakar pleaded not guilty to the charge but was found guilty by the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri after full trial.

He is to serve 15 years in hard labour and be deported to his country after serving the sentence.

Earlier, Police Inspector Anim, the prosecutor had told the court that the complainant is a civil servant, residing at old Ashonmang, while Abubakar is a Guinean national, who claims he came to Accra to learn the English language and his accomplice now at large, who is unemployed, all reside at Christian Village.

He said on March 10, 2013, the complainant was driving from Mallam to her home at Ashongman in her Toyota Corolla with registration number GS 2801-10.

Police Inspector J K Anim said on reaching the Achimota Golf Park at about 1920 hours, two young men emerged from the bush, broke the front passenger side door glass of her car with an object and made away with her ladies bag containing the money, the passport and other documents.

He told the court that the complainant reported the case to the Achimota Police but all efforts to arrest the culprits proved futile.

According to the prosecution, on March 20, 2013, Abubakar was arrested from his hideout upon information and on April 19, 2013, the complainant identified him as one of the two young men who attacked her.
