The Jomoro District Police Commander, Superintendent John Furguson Dzineku has cautioned leaders of communities in the Jomoro district to stop interfering in law matters that are brought before him.
He said their interference rips the district off the large manpower it needs for development.
The Jomoro District over the years has seen increase in motorbike accidents. Checks at the Half Assini Government Hospital also revealed that from 7th January 2014 to 3rd April this year, a total of 4,223 accident cases most of which involved motorbikes were recorded.
Superintendent Dzineku said their checks revealed that the increase was as a result of the influx of motorbikes in the district.
“We blame part of it to the drivers because we believe most of them do not have the required documents covering the motorbikes and themselves. Most of them that we have arrested have no licenses. …and the leaders in the district are found of pleading on behalf of people whenever they have issues with the police. They must know that if we do not encourage them (motorbike riders) to acquire the necessary documentations at the end of the day, manpower will be lost”. Superintend Dzineku indicated
A visit to some principal streets in the district particularly Half Assini Tkobo No. 1 and 2 townships saw many ‘Okada’ riders in business. Some at a point asked us for a ride. Some did not have helmets or any protective gadgets.
Superintendent Dzineku says his outfit has begun mass education to the riders and motorist in general to reduce the rate of accident in the district.
“During the independence anniversary in the district, we used the occasion to educate members on the need to acquire riding license and regularized their documents before using the motorbikes. The various assembly men are also assisting us with public address system that we do in the various communities, in all its education, education, education that we are doing.” Superintend Ferguson Dzineku indicated.
