Dumasua, a farming community in the Sunyani West District, was on Monday thrown into a state of confusion, when some aggrieved women dumped large quantity of refuse at the entrance of the chief’s residence.

[contextly_sidebar id=”ifH3TV7IYQONXknNjJvjDBvY8bhvFJWb”]According to the women, their action was to register their displeasure at the fact that the community has no refuse dump.

When got to the town, the women clad in red arm bands, were seen at the chief’s house with their refuse containers.

They told the GNA that the chief, Nana Osei Nketiah had failed to demarcate an area for the refuse dump, after constant appeals by  residents.

The lack of a refuse dump in the town has contributed to poor sanitation, and subsequently resulted in an outbreak of communicable diseases like cholera.

“We have no other option than to dump the waste we have kept in our houses for some days in front of the chief’s house to register our displeasure about the matter”, one woman stated.

She said women in the town had resolved to continue with the action, until the chief and the community leaders found a lasting solution to the problem.

On his part, the Vhief Nana Nketiah expressed shock about the action of the women, which according to him was against his human rights.

He said he had personally informed and appealed to the Sunyani West District Assembly on the matter, but to no avail.
