The Ghana Water Company Limited, GWCL says it will consult the Ministry of Fnance to develop a debt collection strategy to retrieve monies owed them by some Public Institutions including public tertiary institutions.

He added that the debts owed by these institutions are taking a toll on the operations of the Company.
Cabinet directed utility companies to exempt all public health and educational institutions from the ongoing nationwide disconnection exercise.
In a statement signed by a Deputy Education Minister in charge of pre-tertiary, Alex Kyeremeh said the directive was given due to the critical services the institutions render to the general public.
In an interview with Citi News, the Director of Public Relations of the company, Micheal Agyeman was hopeful that the government will come up with a payment plan to settle the debts owed.
He said in 2014 alone the arrears that has accumulated by the institutions are over $59 million adding that “government arrears plus what they themselves have to pay is over 104, 522,000, 000.”
“Don’t forget that even at the end of the day if it’s even being paid by the institutions, its actually the government that has this money…the MD has gone to the ministry to have a whole consultation with the minister.”
Way forward on debt collection
He suggested that government should make the funds the available to the institutions via their budgets, adding that “for all you know the government is ready to pay us now so that we can work but its early yet. They had to make provisions to their budget and then the budget will release the money to them and they will intend pay to us instead of us going directly to the ministry of finance.”
