Twelve people have been arrested by a joint police military team at Bongini in Northern Region, following clashes that erupted on Saturday.

Three people sustained gunshot wounds and several houses were burnt during the clashes.

Speaking to Citi News, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Adam Imoro said “the first people we arrested are already in Tamale. We transferred them to the regional office. At noon, when we return to Gamabaga, we would send the other two to Tamale.”

Meanwhile, about 50 security men have been deployed to surrounding villages to maintain law and order.

According to the Police Commander for Gambaga and Bunkprugu districts, ASP Matthew Quarshie, the police have been deployed to the area to protect the residents.

ASP Quarshie stated that the culprits will be remanded in custody while the issue undergoes investigations.
