Deputy Majority leader in Parliament Alfred Agbesi has supported the call by the Minority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to introduce a policy that will prevent any party member from challenging him in the party’s primaries.

[contextly_sidebar id=”GJk9lW3OC3S0Zy48iRJionSWcdHf5Pnz”]The Minority leader’s demand is that the party should have a policy to protect its leadership in Parliament from any parliamentary challenge.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame cited an instance where the party came to the rescue of former Majority Leader Felix Owusu Agyepong in 2004.

But this has been denied by the former Majority leader.

Osei Kyei Mensah is currently facing a challenge from five people in his constituency.

They are John Darko, Richard Buadi Soadwa, Chief Yaw Anokye Frimpong, Kwabena Osei Adubofour, and Kwadwo Boateng Genfi.

Mr. Agbesi said the call from the Minority leader is an important one which should be considered.

“It’s a call worth considering by his party. And it is also an eye opening for all of us to know that in situations like this you are bound to have special cases like he is calling for. ” He said “We know what he has done in parliament; we know what he can do and what he will be able to do in future.”

The deputy Majority leader said that there should be a way to keep the experienced people in parliament so the course of parliament as an institution can be better advanced.

Alfred Agbesi however cautioned that the process of maintaining people with immense experience who can do the work in parliament should be done such that it doesn’t undermine democracy
