Executive Director of anti-graft agency, the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Vitus Azeem wants Parliament to mount pressure on the President to sack Kofi Portuphy, the National Coordinator of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

[contextly_sidebar id=”M25GZmW5QcnMkHiUgaMr2GiBGSsiQS1W”]Mr. Azeem insists that the Kofi Portuphy’s continuous stay in office as NADMO boss and Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress is a breach of the 1992 constitution.

Mr. Portuphy is the current chairman of the  governing National Chair of the NDC.

Months after he was elected as chairman of the NDC, Mr Portuphy is still holding on to his position in NADMO; a situation that compelled some pressure groups and individuals to mount pressure on him to resign.

Though some government communicators have defended Mr Portuphy’s action, the office of the President has been quiet on the matter.

However, Vitus Azeem says a Parliamentary intervention is needed to kick Mr Portuphy out of NADMO.

He questioned whether Parliament’s duties are only to have oversight responsibility over governments expenditure “or the executive alone? Or does Parliament also have committee to exercise oversight over its own members and other agencies outside the two?”

He further added that the situation “contravenes the constitution, Act 284.”

“It also contravenes the political parties Act that Parliament has passed, and Parliament has not found it necessary to raise the issue, and the fellow continuous to exercise these two positions. Who exercise oversight over all these people?”
