The Ashanti Regional Command of Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has begun investigations into the fuel station fire disaster that killed two brothers at Kokode, near Agric-Nzema in the Kumasi Metropolis last Sunday night.

[contextly_sidebar id=”CtFSSLRT4CccdrbVWirqvaMrA4VbLf3w”]The fire which was reported to have started around 7 pm, when fuel being discharged from a fuel tanker into underground tanks at the filling station, caught fire and spread to nearby wooden structures, which serve as residential accommodation for the children.

Michael Owusu Yeboah, 8 and Raymond Owusu Yeboah 6, got trapped as they were fast asleep in one of the wooden structures.

Unconfirmed reports also indicate that, the tanker driver, known only as Atipo, who sustained severe burns had died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where he was rushed to for treatment.

Mr Philip Arhin Mensah, Regional Commander of GNFS, told the media in Kumasi that, investigations are ongoing to locate and identify the owner of the filling station and the tanker.

He said the fire officers spent close to five hours to bring the blaze, which engulfed adjoining structures under control.

Mr Arhin Mensah said the charred bodies of the deceased persons had been deposited at KATH mortuary.
