Family of the 36-years-old farmer who was allegedly shot dead during curfew hours in the troubled Bunkprugu/Yunyoo district is demanding justice from the Military high command.
[contextly_sidebar id=”bz7Se615YgXkPSrt8N37meQsHpdZqD1c”]The deceased, Jabiuk Duut was shot dead in his room by Private Daniel Appiah of the 6 Battalion, Kamina Barracks in Tamale.
The incident occurred at a farming community called Pagnatik, a suburb of Bunkprugu Township which is usually cut off during rainy season.
The community lacks basic social amenities such as water, electricity, classroom-blocks, health centre and there is poor receptivity to communication networks there.
The suspect has since being in the custody of the Military Police pending the outcome of investigations.
The deceased uncle, Nelson Jatuat in an exclusive interview with Citi News at the scene narrated what happened, “They came and surrounded the house: the man and the wife were indoors and they started hitting the doors and succeeded in opening one of the rooms where the man’s wife were there with the children.”
“They went behind the house and started hitting the walls so that they could access him but later they discovered a window used stones and broke the wire mesh and saw the man hiding behind some maize bags and they shot him dead.”
Nelson Jatuat called for the prosecution of the suspect, Private Daniel Appiah.
He commended the Member of Parliament for Bunkprugu, Hon. Solomon Boa for his swift response to a distress call on the calamity.
The deceased wife, Jabiuk Binantoi bemoaned the bizarre approach to her late husband’s death.
She pondered over her single parenthood with the four children and the deceased poor mother.
The MP, Hon. Solomon Boa said he would petition the Interior Minister over what he described as the uncouth conduct of the suspect, Private Daniel Appiah.
“What I have seen here is beyond human comprehension and I can assure you that this is a matter I will follow to its logical conclusion: this is a matter I will personally on behalf of the chiefs and people of the area petition the Interior Minister to look into the matter.”
He cautioned law enforcement agencies operating in the area against such inhumane acts.
He further challenged them to be circumspect in their operations.
The Ministry of Interior imposed dusk till dawn curfew on Bunkprugu Township and its environs.
Residents there are required to observe the curfew from 4pm to 6am.
This followed renewed chieftaincy clashes between the Jamong and Jafog clans from the Bimoba community which caused the death of two persons in Bunkprugu Township.
