IGP blames Commanders for recent cell breaks

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Alhassan has blamed the recent cell breaks at most Police stations in the country on the poor leadership and supervision by Commanders of such stations.

[contextly_sidebar id=”fY9nf7gzfRCXlGj0qfj7jIhmmPY04xWI”]According the IGP, if officers who are put in charge at various stations showed enough commitment to their jobs, such incidences will not recur.

He made the comment while addressing Police officers  at the National Passing out ceremony, at the National Police training school in Accra, today.

Within two months, 13 criminals are reported to have escaped from jail in four cells.

Seven of them at Denu in the Volta Region, of which five have been recaptured, two at the Tepa Police Station with the latest at Asiwa and Nsuta.

The IGP assured Ghanaians that all Police officers who are found culpable of negligence in the recent cell breaks will be punished.

Addressing the gathering during the National Passing ceremony today in Accra, the IGP said, “Poor leadership and supervision, weak commitment and disloyalty to the services by some officers has been a daunting challenge to the administration and this has accounted of the several negative, unprofessional and sometimes criminal acted being exhibited  by some personnel of the service.

The recent incident of prisoner escape of prisoners from our custody are arising out of sheer negligence are also attributed to poor supervision on the part of our commanders, NCO and supervisors who fail to ensure that our security of our vital installations including the cells, the armory and exhibit store rooms are constantly checked.

We want to serve notice that all personnel who are found culpable in the  ongoing investigation in the ongoing police cell breaks will be severely dealt with”.

In all 491 Police recruits passed out.
