Coca-Cola donates  $600,000 equipment to 3 hospitals

Coca-Cola donates  $600,000 equipment to 3 hospitals

The Coca Cola Africa Foundation in partnership with Medshare, a non-governmental organization based in Georgia, USA, has donated medical supplies and equipment worth $600,000 to three health facilities in Ghana.

Princess Marie Louis Children’s Hospital, the Psychiatric Hospital, both in Accra, and the Keta Hospital in the Volta Region all received a 40-footer container full of medical supplies and equipment.

The company has since 2011 been donating such items the the three health facilities.

Speaking during the donation to the Marie Louis Children’s Hospital on Thursday, Madam Anna Bawuah, Public Affairs and Communications Manager of Coca-Cola Equatorial Africa Limited said the company is committed towards improving the lives of Ghanaians especially those in deprived communities and the vulnerable in society.

She said the company believes that a happy and improved community means a healthy and happy company hence contributing their quota to better the lives of Ghanaians.

“Coca-Cola has three main pillars when it comes to sustainability. We believe that the communities where we do business are essential to a successful business and these three pillars are wellbeing, women and children.  So under wellbeing we support healthcare, we support access to clean water and the donation exercise forms part of the wellbeing pillar,” she added.

Madam Bawuah added that “we make sure that it’s a right equipment and we also add transformers to them so that every electronic item is used to its fullest capacity.”

“We donate  these equipment free of charge so that the hospitals will use them to generate revenue to enable them sustain their operations. This will continue for the next for years,” she added.

Receiving the equipment on behalf of the Children’s hospital, Dr Samuel Karbah, Director of Care Division at the Ghana Health Service (GHS) who represented the Director of the GHS thanked the Company for the equipment and called on other benevolent organizations to replicate the gesture.

For his part, the Medical Superintendent at the Princess Marie Louis Children’s Hospital expressed gratitude to the Company for supporting them within the last five years.

He however promised that the equipment will be put to good use adding that in past years, they also donate some of the equipment to other hospitals that were in dire need of them.
