Pressure group, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) is demanding the expulsion of the South African High Commissioner to Ghana and other key staff.

[contextly_sidebar id=”65AiZy0Lnsr7QjOWonZhh3keHqY6ZliH”]AFAG is also demanding that President John Mahama as chairman of ECOWAS should push for travel ban of the Zulu King, the South African President, Jacob Zuma, his Cabinet Ministers, the head of the South African Police and other top government officials.

There have been xenophobic attacks on black migrants living in South Africa over the last two weeks.

One Ghanaian has been confirmed dead as a result of the attacks.

The pressure group therefore wants government to outline “practical and commonsensical steps it has put in place to protect and rescue Ghanaians trapped in the xenophobic madness currently sweeping across SA.”

The group also wants government to summon the South African High Commissioner to Ghana to register the nation’s displeasure over the situation and “direct the same to communicate any such intended economic consequences to her government.”

AFAG remarked that beyond the words and threat of sanctions by the international community on South Africa, the lives of Ghanaian are at stake and therefore urged government to “value Ghanaian lives and take the necessary actions to protect Ghanaian lives and businesses in South Africa.”

Despite calls for government to evacuate Ghanaian nationals living in South Africa, Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Kwesi Ahwoi has revealed affected Ghanaians are unwilling to return home.

But AFAG in a statement accused the Mahama-government of failing to protect Ghanaian citizens.

According to them, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government and the Ghana Mission in South Africa have “neither to put in place concrete measures nor communicated any measures of protection to the many Ghanaians resident in SA [South Africa].”
