One thousand one hundred and twenty-nine students of the Machoni, Gulyansi and Lanja primary schools in the Bimbilla North District of the northern region have been forced to study under trees after a heavy rainstorm hit the area.

The rainstorm that hit the district on Monday ripped off the roof of their classrooms and totally destroyed their school buildings.

Again, one thousand and sixteen people have been rendered homeless following the devastating storm.

The Nanumba North District NADMO Coordinator, Nlebe Kojo who confirmed this to Citi fM on Thursday added that five hundred and seventy-one homes were destroyed by the rainstorm.

[contextly_sidebar id=”pEmWisCV1O9sPcZdJFZRZ1gO1w2TUfab”]”The school pupils are now studying under tress because there is no academic facilty available for them to continue with academic work. For the residents, they are perching temporarily with other residents whose homes were not wrecked,’’ he said.

Mr. Nlebe said that to compound the problem, they were yet to receive relief items from the headquarters in Accra  for onward distribution.

‘We are therefore appealing to philanthropists to come to the aid of the affected persons in order to lessen their plight, ’’ Mr Nlebe stated.

Over the years the northern part of Ghana has been hit by several rainstorms which have left thousands displaced.
