trotroThe Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) is appealing to drivers to exercise restraint as they negotiate new transport fares.

The GPRTU was to announce the new fares on Friday following the 7.06%, 5.25% and 4.7% price increases in Petrol, diesel and Liquefied Petroleum gas (LPG) respectively on Tuesday.

But a meeting held to that effect was inconclusive.

Some drivers however have increased fares without any consultation with the union provoking passengers.

According to the Chairman of the GPRTU, Alhaji Yaw Manu, appealed to the drivers to exercise restraint “and whatever it is, the new fares will come for them to use it.”

He however noted that the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) should take the blame for the quarrels between drivers and passengers saying, “the problem doesn’t come from us; the problem comes from the NPA.”

Alhaji Manu lamented that both drivers and passengers are suffering with the new fuel price hikes but “we have to take the proper decision” adding that the process of adjusting transport fares is a long process which has to go through several processes.
