Deaths through car crashes continue to rise in the Ashanti Region, despite intensive safety campaign, resulting in the death of 40 people during the first three months of the year.

[contextly_sidebar id=”rfEV1GPNYZfVJcrlaek4FfDrmYhX44iO”]Thomas Bismark Boakye, Regional Manager of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), said 28 of those killed were men, while 12 were women.

He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that some of the fatalities could have been prevented, if drivers observed traffic rules and regulations.

He appealed to road users to heed calls to be more careful on the road, by avoiding recklessness, driving under the influence of alcohol, and speeding, to save lives.

Mr. Boakye said it was important for everybody to put premium on safety to make the roads safe.

He encouraged travelers to be bold to report to the police drivers who showed complete disregard for the road traffic laws.

He said all should take responsibility and join the campaign to help reduce car crashes in order to save the lives of innocent people.
