President of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantaki has expressed shock at the Confederation of African Football (CAF’s) decision to overlook Ghana’s AFCON 2017 bid in favour of Gabon at the federations’s General Assembly held in Cairo on May 8,2015.

Nyantakyi was initially left out of Ghana’s bid committee which included Former FA boss Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, Ernest Thompson, and former FA Spokesperson Randy Abbey until a point where his influence in the corridors of African football was deemed essential.

He further revealed on Citi Fm’s friday sports show Sports Panorama that he felt betrayed by a number of his colleagues at CAF who had given him assurances of supporting Ghana’s bid.

“I was very very surprised,I was so convinced Ghana would win and I got a feeling from some of my members that they would vote and support Ghana so I was surprised that Ghana did not win.

“It means that some of them were not truthful with me,”he disclosed. Gabon played a key role in February’s Afcon hosted by neighbours Equatorial Guinea through the provision of security services and other logistics including buses.

They are thus set to independently host the competition after co-hosting with Equatorial Guinea in 2012.
