Nanjing Youth Olympic gold medalist Martha Bissah was the centre of attraction at the Athletics Open Championships organised by the Ghana Athletic Association (GAA) at the El Wak Sports Stadium on Saturday whens he beat all her competitors to win the 800 metres final in a time of 2:12.78.

Although Bissah beat off all her competition she could not match up to her Nanjing Youth Olympic gold winning time of 2.04.90.

The competition also saw Osei Kofi John run the fastest time by a Ghanaian athlete both local and foreign when he won his 100m race in 10.53.

The competition which was sponsored by Indomie Noodles was organised to serve as a platform to unearth athletes and develop the current local athletes in all track and field events for upcoming international competitions .

Some other winners from the other events were Abruyah Happy 100 m women (12.51) ,Robert Annak 400m men (48.55) , Ralio Derzu 1500m men (4.02.47) , Sakat Lariba 1500m women (4.45.44) , Iddrisu Shawkwa 400m women (58.67) President of the Ghana Athletics Association Prof Francis Dodoo spoke to Citi Sports after the event and was pleased with what he witnessed.

“ The event went really well there were some very decent performances , clearly the athletes are developing and we hope that in two weeks time (when another Open Championships is held) we will see some improvement, I was happy with the performances .” It is very possible that Ghana will win some medals at the African Championships,”
