The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere has promised to support the Eastern Regional Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association(GJA), to acquire a plot of land for the construction of a press centre for the Association.

[contextly_sidebar id=”a5chw2dwb9w0dXnfSjkcwatWd1rk7WZc”]The Minister made the promise when he presented two maxi bags of rice, a box of cooking oil, a ram and cash, to the Eastern Regional Executive of the GJA as his support towards the organization of this year’s World Press Freedom Day in the region.

He explained that currently the success of the practice of democracy and tolerance in the country had gained country  respect among the community of nations, and that success was achieved largely due to the contribution of the media in Ghana.

Mr Antwi-Boasiako said, it is therefore important that the Media in the country be given the needed support to play its role in the development of the country, hence his support for the GJA to successfully organize the World Press Freedom Day.

Mr Maxwel Kudakor, the Regional Secretary of the Association who received the items on behalf of the Association, expressed the appreciation of the members to the Minister, and assured him that the items would be used to organize a very grand celebration in the region this year.

The World Press Freedom Day is an annual affair observed globally to emphasize the need for free and pluralistic media.

This year’s day would be observed on Sunday, May 3, under the theme: “Let Journalism Thrive! Towards Better Reporting, Gender Equality & Media Safety in the Digital Age.”
