A 20-year-old driver who allegedly threatened to shoot his 18-year-old girlfriend for failing to abort a pregnancy has been arrested by the police.

[contextly_sidebar id=”J0UuVyqbLuvIa5rFYjAAfstJRJ0Wawqc”]According to the police, Komla Gamor, alias SM, violently attacked his girlfriend, Georgina Abaryitey, and attempted to shoot her, but some persons close by overpowered him.

No to abortion

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Odorkor District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police Mr Abraham Acquaye, said the two claimed they had been lovers for the past three months.

However, he said, when Gamor found out Georgina was a few weeks pregnant, he asked her to abort the pregnancy, but the woman refused.

The disagreement, he said, degenerated into an argument and separation. Gamor later found a new girlfriend.

Pregnant woman beaten

Mr Acquaye said at about 5p.m. on April 5, this year, Gamor attended a naming ceremony at Omanjor near Accra with his new girlfriend and saw Georgina dancing at the ceremony with a man.

Gamor tried to prevent Georgina from dancing with the other man but she would not budge.

He said later, Gamor called the woman aside and inquired about the pregnancy and when she insisted she was still keeping it, he (Gamor) pounced on her and beat her until they were separated by those around.

But Gamor was said to have gone to his house at Ofankor and returned with a locally manufactured gun and started threatening to shoot the woman.

Gun

The incident brought the naming ceremony to an abrupt end.

Mr Acquaye said later, Gamor told the police he found the gun while he was weeding near his house at Ofankor and decided to keep it.

Gamor has been charged with threat of death and possession of firearms without authority.
