Some victims of the timber market fire in Accra say they will rebuild their stalls despite orders from the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry not to.
Fire gutted parts of the Timber market two days ago leaving most traders stranded.
The Deputy Trades and Industry Minister, Nii Lantey Vanderpuije who visited the market asked traders not to rebuild until investigation into the cause of the fire is concluded.
But some traders who spoke to Citi News said they will defy his order because they have to start making a living for themselves and their families.
One trader said: “We disagree with him because we will go hungry. Some people have wives so we should be allowed to rebuild because times are hard.”
“If we are to wait for the government, we will go hungry. We have children who must go to school. If the government will quicken their investigations, we will wait but not for long,” another said.
This is the second market fire being recorded in less than a week after the Makola Number two market caught fire destroying goods and sheds worth thousands of Ghana cedis. About 2,000 traders lost their wares in the fire.
