The first ever awards ceremony to promote comedy on the African continent has been launched in Accra.

The awards, being organized by Laugh Buzz Africa would bring together comedians from all over Africa to promote comedy and honor exceptional individuals and industry players.

Categories to be contested fir are Promising Comedian of the Year, Standup Comedian of the Year, International Comedian of the Year, Male Comedian of the YEar and Female Comedian of the Year.

Other categories are African Humanitarian Award, Honor Award, African Comic Movie of the Year, African Comic TV Show of the YEar and African Comic Actor of the YEar.

The Co-CEO of Laugh Buzz Africa, Hariet Adansi, speaking at the launch explained the rationale behind the award.

“There is no doubt that the award scheme will generate excitement and enthusiasm among the young and old here in Africa. Africa today understands the need for comedy and laughter in our daily healthy living. A good laugh is the easiest and cheapest way to cure stress-related ailments,” he said.

Comedy has seen tremendous growth in the Ghana over the past few years. Ghanaian comedians tipped to win accolades at the event include Kwaku Sintim Misa, Fritz Baffour, Agya Koo, Lil Win, Comedian Aglah, Foster Romanus, Khemikal and DKB.
