Health Workers at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have complained bitterly about the abuse they have been receiving from members of the public.
The verbal abuses according to them, begun after the disappearance of a still born baby at the hospital.
The workers complained to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health when they toured some facilities at the hospital this week.
The Chairman of the Committee, Joseph Yileh Chireh said it is prejudicial to accuse the health workers of any wrong doing.
He stated that “so long as we continue to do the investigation, it is prejudicial for anybody to be seen condemning one side or the other.”
According to Mr. Chireh, the incident should be a wakeup call to Ghanaians “to be more caring than we do” and deist from generalizing wrong doing.
The body of a stillborn baby went missing at KATH a few hours after delivery.
Sympathizers of the mother, Suweiba Mumuni stormed the hospital premises and assaulted some health officials. Subsequently, the Ashanti Regional Police Command dispatched some Police personnel to ensure security at the hospital.
The Chief Executive Officer of the KATH has been asked to proceed on leave after the hospital’s inability to produce the bodies of three missing babies as directed by the Ministry of Health.
Some health officials have also be arraigned before court for their alleged involvement in the circumstances surrounding the missing baby.
The doctor and midwife on duty during the delivery have also been asked to proceed on leave while investigations are ongoing.
