Kenya’s Interior Minister is quoted by the BBC as explaining that the closure is to prevent Islamist militants from using the firms to finance terrorist attacks.

On Sunday, Somalia al-Shabab bases were bombed by Kenyan fighter jets.

These are part of measures being undertaken by the Kenyan government to fight al-Shabab’s insurgency in the country.

This follows an attack at the Garissa University last week Thursday which claimed 148 lives.

Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta has vowed to do everything possible to crush the militants.

Meanwhile, the Kenyan government has placed a 20 million Kenyan shillings ($215,000) bounty on the ring leader of the group, Mohamed Mohamud who is suspected to have masterminded the attack.
