The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan will be appearing before the Defense and Interior Committee of Parliament to answer questions on two different cell break incidents in recent times.

In Denu, 7 people escaped, carrying with them, two AK47 riffles belonging to the officers at the station but 3 have been re-arrested.
Speaking to Citi News Deputy ranking Member on the Defense and Interior Committee of Parliament, Major Derick Oduro indicated the resolve of Parliament to probe the IGP on the recent happenings with the aim of putting a stop to such incidents.
He lamented that “when the [prisoners] are under confinement behind bars under the protection of high security personnel and they are are able to break through the confinement and then escape, these are all source of worry and I believe that Ghanaians are also worried.”
“This is the more reason why Parliament’s Interior Committee will want to hear from the IGP what happened. I know very well that investigations will be instituted by the Police service but before that and after that we want to hear from the IGP,” Major Oduro added.
Don’t be alarmed over cell break – Interior Minister
Earlier, the Minister of Interior, Mark Woyongo has told Ghanaians to be calm over the cell breaks saying we shouldn’t be alarmed.
He told Citi News that Ghana rarely records such incidents and further appealed to Ghanaians to remain calm as investigations into the case continue.
“For a very long time we have not had any Police cell break and for a very long time we have not had any attempted prison break. These are two isolated cases and I don’t think there should be any cause for alarm. The security agencies are on top of the situation,” he remarked.
