Employees of Airtel Ghana, multiple award winning company, have made a generous donation to the families and children of the Village of Hope orphanage, Gomoah Feteh, after holding a competitive food drive amongst the various departments under the Make Your Change employee volunteerism Initiative.

Over the month, all the departments at Airtel Ghana were actively engaged in the annual Charity Food Drive Competition, which saw the various departments make generous contributions towards charity.

The individual members of each department made contributions of non – perishable food items and after a month of collecting these items all the departments output where weighed against each other to determine the department with the highest contribution.

The food items collected were given out as charity to the families and children of the Village of Hope Orphanage as a show of the company’s deep commitment to involving its staff in its CSR initiatives within the communities it operates.

Donald Gwira, head of Corporate Communications and External Affairs at Airtel Ghana said “the Food Drive Competition is one of the very exciting activities on Airtel’s annual CSR calendar, where employees are engaged in a healthy competition as they try to outdo each other by making the biggest contributions towards a good course. This healthy competition also builds team work and encourages the staff to give back to society.”

The Managing Director of the orphanage, Mr. Kwaku Sarkodie expressed his gratitude as follows, “Airtel Ghana has been a friend to the orphanage over the years and has shown so much love to the children here. We are always happy to have the employees visit us. We truly appreciate all the help they give to the Village of Hope Orphanage.”

Airtel’s Make Your Change initiative is one of the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility projects which provide a platform for its employees to identify challenges in their various communities and provide solutions to them.

It was built on the company’s strong determination to make a change in areas in which it operates. Initiatives such as the Charity Food Drive Competition are one of the many activities that have been carried out by Airtel Staff on the wings of the Make Your Change initiative.

The Village of Hope is a private NGO owned by the Church of Christ Ghana. It has been in operation since 1996 and currently takes care of 260 children from crèche to tertiary.

The orphanage is made up of houses which are each headed by two parents who are in charge of the household.
