liberia_0The Ghana Refugees Board says food supplies to Ivorian Refugees in the country by April 2015.

This according to the board is due to the reduction in donor support for the refugees. 20% of the food supplied will be cut this month alone.

The programme coordinator at the Ghana Refugee Board, Tetteh Padi told Citi News, the move is as a result of the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees not receiving the needed donor support.

He disclosed that his outfit is providing “skills training for those who remain here and trying to make them more self sufficient so that by the time food assistance ceases, it is hoped that most of them will earn a living.”

In 2011, refugees fleeing the fighting in the Ivorian post electoral violence crossed over to Ghana and according to the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees (UNHCR) in 2013 revealed that about 9,800 Ivorian refugees are currently living in Ghana.

8,000 are living in three emergency camps in the Western, Brong- Ahafo and Central Regions with the rest living as urban refugees.
