Ghana’s former President, John Agyekum Kufour is currently in a closed door meeting with incumbent President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan.
[contextly_sidebar id=”ED7YDUf9i455KgkcMZpNPWNr5njPPtln”]Kufour who is the leader of the ECOWAS Election Observers has declared the Nigeria elections which started on Saturday as “peaceful and transparent” despite reports of pockets of violence and technical hitches in parts of the country.
According to the Punch Newspaper, “the meeting which started inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja at about 3.30pm [Nigerian Time] is also being attended by Vice President Namadi Sambo and a few presidential aides.”
The incumbent, Goodluck Jonathan from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is facing a strong challenge from former military ruler, Muhammadu Buhari from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started receiving provisional results from its collating officers from the nations’ 36 states.
So far provisional results from nine states puts Goodluck Jonathan ahead with 2,421,839 while, Muhammadu Buhari is galloping behind with 2,342,742
Other election observers who are part of the meeting include former Liberian President, Amos Sawyer, who is leading the African Union Election Observer Mission; former Malawian President and Head of Commonwealth Election Observer Mission, Bakili Muluzi; and the AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Ambassador Aisha Laraba Abdullahi.
