A group calling itself the NDC coordinating team of Tamale has mounted pressure on the party’s National Executive Committee to quickly conduct its internal elections without further delay .
The group claimed any further delays could affect the NDC’s chances of retaining power in 2016.
Secretary to the NDC coordinating team of Tamale, Issaka Sadique told Citi News NDC supporters at the grassroot level in the northern region were unhappy about what he described as the unnecessary delay.
“The NDC coordinating team of Tamale and other bodies describe this development as a death trap to our dear party in spite of the potholes within the party currently.”
He emphasized, “As we are all aware the tradition of our party calls for the constituency executive elections followed by the regional and the national; by the provision of the constitution of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Article 21(1) which says that there shall be a congress of the party to be held once every two years called the national congress which shall be the highest decision making body.”
According to Issaka Sadique, the NDC won the 2012 elections with the slimmest margin and should not allow complacency to erode their success in 2016.
“One year is not sufficient for a sitting President to win an election especially at a time a major opposition party is on his toes; we the NDC coordinating team of Tamale cannot take this development easy likewise any concerned members of our party.”
He fumed, “We are therefore challenging the top hierarchy of our party to rescind their decision within one month or expect no vote in this part of Ghana especially northern region.”
