The Committee set up to investigate the fire the burnt meters belonging the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in one of their warehouses in the Ashanti Region has said in its report that it suspects the work of arsonists.

[contextly_sidebar id=”NxOzpTCMucPtdoUoa9fxI6ckD7vQwtuy”]While admitting that the wiring of the warehouse was poorly done, the committee also revealed that the facility was not conducive enough to serve as a warehouse for the meters.

Over 21,000 new ECG meters worth $2 million were burnt in during the fire.

Six persons were subsequently interdicted while a committee was also formed in January to investigate the matter.

Meanwhile, presenting their report to the Minister of Power, Dr Kwabena Donor on Friday, the committee noted that the senior staff of the ECG used “unlawful” means to acquire the warehouse.

The Minister of Power, Kwabena Donkor for his part gave the assurance that the ministry will collaborate with the Police to arrest the suspected arsonists.

He also indicated that the ministry will later direct the board of ECG to investigate reports of financial impropriety revealed by the investigative committee.
