Church Elder kills pregnant wife

The Kasoa District Police Command is on the heels of a 40-year-old Elder of the Christian Assembly Church, Maxwell Opoku, for allegedly killing his wife, who was six months pregnant.

[contextly_sidebar id=”WXpIS6ef1NPlGECOGM0MOSAKs6zlDO4y”]The deceased, Mary Adjei, 21, was said to have met her death at the hands of the caretaker-mason over a misunderstanding that ensued between them.

Opoku was alleged to have hit the head of Mary with a pressing iron, locked the deceased in their room together with her two-year- old boy and fled the scene.

Corroborating the story to Daily Guide yesterday, the Kasoa District Police Commander, Superintendent Samuel Punobyin Tibill, said the police was informed that somebody had murdered his wife in one of the uncompleted buildings at the Kasoa Millennium City.

He said the police, on reaching the scene of the incident, found the deceased lying in a pool of blood with her two-year-old boy, a stepson of the suspect, sitting by her side.

Superintendent Tibill was emphatic that Opoku hit the pregnant woman with a pressing iron, knocking her unconscious, collected all his pictures from the room and locked the door.

He stated that the police however managed to get the picture of the suspect although he sought to hide same.

He said the attention of the neigh­bours was drawn to the incident as a result of the cries of the child.

Murder

Superintendent Tibill said this was a clear case of murder.

While describing the act as despicable, the Kasoa District Police Commander said the family of the deceased had contacted the police while the body was deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.

Supt Tibill urged the public to assist the police to apprehend the suspect, adding that anyone with vital information in that regard should report to the nearest police station or call the police emergency numbers.
