Vodafone Ghana has taken advantage of the World Tuberculosis Day to urge Ghanaians to join in the education and eventual eradication of the global pandemic.
[contextly_sidebar id=”HXgIlXZyxPPAhXwhhENhsSU6FanE06lv”]Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by bacteria which spreads through the air. It typically affects the lungs and can kill if left untreated.
World Tuberculosis Day, which falls on March 24, is a day set aside to celebrate the moment when Medical Science researcher Dr. Robert Koch arrived at the cause of the disease.
The startling revelation from him in Berlin led to the diagnosis and eventual discovery of a cure for the disease.
Through its Vodafone Ghana Foundation, the telecommunications company has been at the forefront of several initiatives in the health sector including HealthFest, Healthline, Mobile for Good, amongst others.
Commenting on the Day, Nana Yaa Afriyie Ofori-Koree, Head of Foundation and Sustainability at Vodafone Ghana said:
“Our commitment to the fight against Tuberculosis across the country has never been in doubt. We want Ghanaians to know that TB can be totally eradicated with the required support. It will take a concerted effort from all of us to ensure we see the back of this pandemic and it is possible. We want to also draw the attention of all and sundry to our Healthline – 255 call center platform, which continues to educate Ghanaians on TB and other diseases”.
Since its establishment, the Vodafone Ghana Foundation has moved from just funding projects to investing in developing sustainable initiatives that solve pressing social issues and benefit several communities in the country.
Initiatives such as Mobile for Good have been a mind opener on how technology can be used as a medium to change lives. Healthline – 255, Ghana’s first ever health call center has been empowering Ghanaians with health related information whiles the Healthline mobile “app” continues to serve as a great platform for information sharing given the current digitised dispensation.
