The Police Administration says the country is safe in spite of the sudden surge of murders across the country.
“There is no need to feel insecure. The Police Administration is doing everything possible to curb this menace,” said the Public Relations Officer of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, ASP Joseph Darkwa.
Members of Parliament (MPs) raised the issue on the floor of Parliament on Monday, expressing concern over the development and called for the adequate resourcing of the Police Service to provide adequate security for both Legislators and Ghanaians.
Speaking to Citi News, ASP Darkwa said the police are on top of the issue saying, “the Police Administration has increased night patrols and we have also embarked on arresting of unregistered motorbikes which are mostly used in committing some of these crimes.”
The CID according to him has dispatched a number of plain clothed detectives into communities “to help detect some of these crimes.’
The Intelligence Unit at the CID is also on the ground to ensure the criminals are arrested and prosecuted.
He insisted that although the situation is ‘a bit worrisome, there is no cause for alarm. The Police are making sure that the country is safe…we have collected evidence and we are still investigating the issues.”
