A group calling itself, Concerned New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth in Tamale is vehemently opposed to the party’s filing fees for the upcoming Parliamentary primaries.

[contextly_sidebar id=”ccJPEbunQssTW9ekcslWCnbqfmmiidEt”]The party’s National Executive Council (NEC) proposed GHC10.000.00 as filing fees for the primaries in orphan constituencies.

At constituencies where there are sitting Members of Parliament, the contenders will have to cough GHC30.000.00.

This has since created uproar with some NPP members threatening to sue the party.

In opposition to the proposals, some irate party youth besieged the NPP Asylum Down headquarters in Accra on Tuesday.

It is against this backdrop the Concerned NPP youth in Tamale has called for a review of the filing fees.
The group’s Spokesperson, Yussif Danjumah described the amount involved as awful.

According to him, winnable but poor Parliamentary aspirants especially in the Northern Region would be demoralized.

He suggested that the filing fees for orphan constituencies should be pegged at GHC7.000.00.

Yussif Danjumah however lauded the affirmative action that only female aspirants could compete with NPP women sitting MPs during the primaries.

The NPP can boast of 10 out of 31 Parliamentary seats in the Northern Region with no single woman Parliamentarian from the area.
