The National Democratic Congress in the Ashanti Region has dissociated itself from a supposed petition made to the presidency to sack the regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye.
The Daily Guide newspaper reported today that some party supporters in the region have petitioned the President, John Dramani Mahama to remove the Police Commander and some two other officers.
[contextly_sidebar id=”rZjDR94XqX58aEKl0XrplQSC2Ak2FeCf”]According to them, the continuous stay in office of these officers will jeopardize the NDC’s chances of winning the 2016 elections in the region.However, speaking to Citi News, the party’s Regional Secretary, Raymond Tandoh said the supporters calling for the removal of the Police chief do not have the backing of the regional executive body.“That is not the position of the regional executive. The regional executive wants to dissociate ourselves from the statement of this group. We don’t know anything about this”, Tandoh said.He however added that a vehicle in Kumasi belonging to an NDC member has the inscription “Kofi Boakye Must Go”, but the owner denied referring to the Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Baokye when contacted, but “one Kofi Boakye who is an Assembly member, that is the person he says he must go”.
Nonetheless, Tandoh assured the regional executive will investigate the matter.He said they will meet persons suspected to be behind the said petition.
“I have no evidence so I still maintain that it’s their opinion. They have to give us evidence and explain their action to us, because we don’t want to interfere in the police work,” Raymond Tandoh said.
