Three of Ghana’s Highlife greats will from today [Monday] share their musical journey in a special three-day concert at Alisa Hotel, as part of the Mogo Festival.
[contextly_sidebar id=”B5hA9HAOEUWNXf8QkwCtU7X6kYcB9U7y”]Legends such as Nana Kwame Ampadu, Ben Brako, Paapa Yankson will take turns to also tell their life stories, with a band in the background performing their hits intermittently.
Nana Ampadu, revered as one of the highlife musicians with the most songs – over six hundred, will be in action on Monday night.
He is respected both locally and globally for his unique rhythms and lyrical dexterity.
Citi FM’s Director of Programmes Jessica Opare Saforo explained that the station introduced such an event in order to “create an intimate setting between the artistes and the fans.”
“With the three nights of highlights greats we intend to involve the patrons of the show in the running order. So at some point the patrons will have the opportunity to throw questions to the artistes and perhaps in some vein also request their own songs that they will like to hear so that is what differentaitaes the three nights of highlight greats from all the other events for the MOGO festival,” she further explained.
Over the past nine years, MOGO has featured artistes such as the legendary Osibisa Band, Lee Duodu, Paapa Yankson, Abrantie Amakye Dede, A.B Crentsil, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Ben Brako, Asabea Cropper, Paulina Oduro, Bessa Simons, Awura Ama Badu, Samuel Owusu, Tagoe Sisters, Wulomei, George Darko among others.
The MOGO Festival started last Saturday at Mantse Agbonaa, Jamestown with the Accra Music Expo.
Various jama groups from the various Ga communities competed for honours at the event which saw Teshie emerge as winners.
